The cabinet is very sturdy and can support up to 50lbs of weight on its surface. The dimensions from the front inside of the drawer to the drawer's inside back are 16" deep, 13" wide, and 3.5" tall. The utility drawers are just over 5" deep. The cabinet is 16" wide and 20" deep. The top drawer may be difficult to open, but it does not rub on Pendaflex files. However, it has an overhang at the top that curves backward, so it may catch on documents or folders and rip them.
