LinuxFreak Operating Systems Editorial Review
**** The Linux Mint 13 DVD, featuring both MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments, presents a mixed bag of experiences for customers who transitioned from Windows XP. Many users found the installation process on older hardware straightforward, with some noting significant performance improvements, such as reduced restart times. This OS is praised for its reliability, especially appealing to those with prior experience in Linux. New users have reported that even with limited knowledge of Linux, they found this version manageable, although a bit of study and preparation—such as watching tutorials—was deemed helpful for a smoother adjustment. However, this product also has its drawbacks. Many users expressed frustration with certain aspects of system configuration, such as changing passwords and managing updates, which did not go as planned. Some customers reported issues with the lack of current support and software updates, pointing out that this version is outdated and not suitable for continued use. The absence of an active support system led to disappointment among some users who sought assistance or felt abandoned by the product's developers. Overall, while Linux Mint 13 does provide a visually appealing and relatively functional alternative to legacy Windows systems like XP, potential users should be aware of its age and the challenges that may arise from a lack of support and updates. **
