Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What are the ways to unlock the Yale Assure Lock 2?
Answer: You can unlock it using the keypad, Auto-Unlock feature, or the Yale Access app on your smartphone or Apple Watch. -
Question:
Can I share access codes with others?
Answer: Yes, you can share unlimited codes with family, friends, and service people using the Yale Access App. -
Question:
Does the lock automatically lock itself?
Answer: Yes, the Yale Assure Lock 2 can be set to Auto-Lock once the DoorSense feature detects that the door has closed. -
Question:
Will this lock disarm your alarm system when you unlock the door?
Answer: If your alarm system allows it and if is connected (wifi, zwave) to the alarm. Note the lock DoorSense state does not get transmitted thru the zwave interface. -
Question:
Does this device require a separate device, plugged into a wall outlet, to control the lock by app remotely? Such as August Connect?
Answer: No, these locks have a ZWave communications module installed, they will pair with hubs that have ZWave radios. This would include SmartThings (except for the new SmartThings Station). If the Yale locks are paired directly to a smart hub, then the Yale app is not necessary (except for the initial setup and firmware update). -
Question:
Is z-wave connectivity better than Wi-Fi connectivity for this lock? We live in an area with constant construction, so the WiFi is unpredictable.
Answer: Short answer is Yes. As long as you have a smart home hub that supports ZWave these should work for you. ZWave runs in the 900mhz band while Zigbee runs in the 2.4ghz band. ZWave is more secure and has better distance coverage because of the lower frequency. -
Question:
Can this be used outdoor like on a gate?
Answer: No. The electronics side of the lock cannot to be exposed to the element. -
Question:
How do you open the no-key version lock if the battery has died?
Answer: The instructions say for no key, you need to have another way into the house. So I have a no key on the front and also a conventional lock on a side door. -
Question:
Do you need a hub or module to have remote access to the lock?
Answer: In my experience, without the Z-Wave or WiFi module the lock will only support remote access Bluetooth. Bluetooth via the Yale app and/or Apple home kit works as the interface. Yes, the Yale Assure 2 locks (ZWave) work directly in SmartThings, on all of the hubs except the new SmartThings Station (no ZWave radio). -
Question:
Does this work with a Aeotec Smart Hub (replacement for Samsung Smartthings)?
Answer: Yes, the Yale Assure 2 locks (ZWave) work directly in SmartThings, on all of the hubs except the new SmartThings Station (no ZWave radio).
